Freedom prises a poem from a page
Not shackled by laws emboldened by rage
Freedom’s a slow steady pulsing beat
Not pounding, dreading, gate-keeping sleep
Freedom gives voice declaring I’m here
Not swallowing words fermenting in fear
Freedom’s a yawning enthralling potential
Not trembling needs, screaming essential
Freedom enhances dancing with difference
Not othering lives crafting confliction
Freedom’s a protest without retribution
Not dimming the light casting confusion
Freedom accepts without judgment what is
Not resisting the process so it persists
Freedom’s a cause of conscience and care
Not taken for granted for then it’s not there
Freedom’s a truth that is never in doubt
Freedom’s a light that can never go out
